Single Channel Speech Enhancement: From Wiener Filtering to Neural Networks

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/350936

In this talk we will discuss the history and the modern state of sound capturing and speech enhancement. We will start with the general architecture of speech enhancement pipelines for the needs of hands-free telecommunication and distant speech recognition. The talk will discuss both classical approaches using statistical signal processing and deep learning using neural networks. It will be illustrated with real-life examples from the speech enhancement audio pipelines in Kinect, HoloLens, and Teams. Optical Access Networks for Future Broadband Services

Virtual: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/350290

Invited Talk: Optical Access Networks for Future Broadband Services Dr. Jun Shan Wey Verizon, Fellow of Optica About the Talk Optical access networks play a crucial role enabling broadband services, e.g., fiber-to-the-x. As 5G wireless network deployments are well underway and 3GPP has begun its planning of Release-19 standards, optical access networks are becoming increasingly important in providing the underlying transport infrastructure. This talk will discuss drivers and requirements for future broadband services as well as the optical access technology and standards being developed to support these services. About the Speaker Jun Shan Wey received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is a Distinguished Engineer in the Technology Standards Planning team at Verizon. Her current work focuses on standardization and industry ecosystem development for optical access networks and 5G video media vertical. Shan participates in many standards organizations, including ITU-T, FSAN, IEEE, 3GPP, ATIS, and has served as an editor for several ITU-T PON standards. Shan has been active in the Optical Fiber Communications (OFC) conference program as the 2022 General co-Chair, the 2022 John Tyndall Award Selection Committee Chair, and a member of the Steering Committee. She currently co-chairs the IEEE INGR Optics Working Group. Shan is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of Optica.
