Women in Engineering

Vision

IEEE WIE Forum USA East focuses on developing and improving leadership skills for individuals at all stages of their careers. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear inspirational and empowering talks presented by successful leaders from IEEE Northeast. Emerging technologies will also be demonstrated, engaging attendees to facilitate discussion and potential advancement of STEM outreach class ideas.

Mission

To inspire and empower women as leaders in engineering and technology. Through a network of more than 500 affinity groups and 15,000 members around the world, IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) directly transforms the lives of hundreds of thousands of young girls and women via pre-university outreach, technical seminars, humanitarian projects, networking events, and educational programs focused on encouraging self-realization through the core ideas of the IEEE WIE mission.

Conference Focus Areas

  • Workshops:  Develop new skills or improve skills
  • Career Fairs:  Meet with growing organizations

Responsibilities

  • Encourage the development of a WIE Affinity Group within a Section as well as Student Branch Affinity Groups for students.
  • Keep abreast of and make available information regarding gender related educational issues within Region 1, which may improve the entry into and the retention of women in engineering.
  • Encourage the participation of woman volunteers in Region 1.
  • Participate in WIE Committee Meetings (two in person and monthly conference calls).
  • Report to the Region Director on WIE status and activities.
  • Inform WIE Committee of local activities that might be interest to the WIE membership.

How appointed and term of office

The Women in Engineering (WIE) Coordinator is appointed for a two year term by the incoming Director. The Coordinator shall take office on January 1st. Reappointment of the incumbent is permissible.

Duties

The WIE Committee addresses the professional and educational needs of women in engineering and sciences. The committee maintains an advisory relationship with the local WIE affinity groups and provides guidance such as, new initiatives or assistance in the procurement of funds for activities that support the objectives of MGA. The committee facilitates the establishment of local IEEE WIE affinity groups within a Section, including student branches.

Chair

The Chair of the WIE Committee shall be appointed by the Region Director in accordance with Section 7.3.1.2 of these Bylaws.

The Chair of the WIE Committee shall serve as the Region 1 Representative on the IEEE WIE Committee.

Committee Members

This Committee shall be composed of all Section WIE Affinity Group Chairs in the Region.
